THE MOLECULE IN THE WATER

WHAT IS
MOLECULAR HYDROGEN?

Molecular hydrogen, written as H₂, is hydrogen gas dissolved in water. It is not the same thing as pH, minerals or hydrogen atoms already bound inside the H₂O molecule.

H₂

01 / START WITH THE DEFINITION

A TINY GAS.
A DIFFERENT CONVERSATION.

Hydrogen-rich water contains dissolved molecular hydrogen gas. Because H₂ is exceptionally small and neutral, researchers are studying how it moves through the body and how it may interact with biological signalling and oxidative-stress pathways.

H₂ IS THE ACTIVE SUBJECT

The research is about dissolved hydrogen gas, not alkalinity alone.

FRESHNESS MATTERS

Hydrogen is a gas and gradually escapes after water is produced, especially in open containers.

NO SUGAR OR STIMULANTS

Hydrogen-rich water does not require caffeine, flavouring or added sugar.

STILL AN EMERGING FIELD

Human research is growing, but results vary by dose, population and study design.

02 / WHY ATHLETES ARE INTERESTED

TRAINING CREATES STRESS.
RECOVERY IS WHERE ADAPTATION HAPPENS.

OXIDATIVE-STRESS RESEARCH

Exercise naturally produces reactive oxygen species. Researchers are investigating whether H₂ may influence selected oxidative-stress and inflammatory markers.

FATIGUE & RECOVERY

Early human studies have examined perceived fatigue, muscle function and recovery after exercise. Findings are promising in some settings but not uniform.

PERFORMANCE QUESTIONS

Studies have explored endurance, repeated sprint performance and exercise capacity. Larger, well-controlled trials are still needed.

03 / IMPORTANT DISTINCTIONS

HYDROGEN IS NOT
A MAGIC ELECTROLYTE.

It does not replace sodium or other electrolytes. Long-duration or high-sweat training may still require an individual hydration and fuelling plan.

pH does not tell you the hydrogen concentration. Alkalinity, oxidation-reduction potential and dissolved H₂ describe different properties.

More research is needed. Molecular hydrogen should be considered alongside sleep, nutrition, training load and medical advice—not instead of them.

04 / LEARN FROM THE FIELD

FOLLOW THE SCIENCE,
NOT JUST THE HEADLINES.
